String Hoppers

String Hoppers (also known as "Idiyappam") are a popular Sri Lankan breakfast dish made from rice flour. They are light, fluffy, and served with curry or sambol. These steamed noodle-like discs are perfect for a healthy and satisfying start to your day!

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour and salt.
  2. Slowly add hot water while mixing with a spoon until the dough comes together.
  3. Once the dough is smooth, add melted butter and coconut milk (if using) and knead until well combined.
  4. Fill a string hopper press with the dough and press onto greased trays or steaming baskets in a circular pattern.
  5. Steam the string hoppers for 5–7 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
  6. Serve with your favorite curry or sambol and enjoy!
